How long will it take for even ONE of the dozens of countries around the world that we have helped (when they had natural disasters) to send some help now when we need it for the people hit by Katrina?? To even say "Sorry for your troubles, we wish that we could send some help, but we will keep you in our prayers"?? Any bets on how long?

On TV last night they showed a number of Canadians that donating money at local collection points here in the US. The Canadian Red Cross is also collecting funds for a relief fund for Hurricane Katrina. England is also collecting and sending funds to help. Venezuela has offered to provide aid workers. There are probably even more examples.

You said a mouthfull. lets see in the last year we gave 15? billion to africans cause there hungry and apparently WE need to feed them untill 75% of them die from aids. the tsunami cost what 600? or so million, and those people explicitly asked us to leave as they did not want americans on thier soil. a few earthquakes here and there $$$. sure would be nice to have all those funds readily available to help americans in time of need. oh ya forgot about our billions of dollars "dues" to NATO, somthing i personally think we can do without. NATO was started with good intentions, but has since turned into a welfare program for third world countries.

RedEye,
I know what you are meaning, but the world welfare system is ran out of the UN, or United Nations, where as NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was set up as a military alliance to counter the Warsaw Pact, IE Soviet Union, and all their commie cohorts in during the last 40 years. But Yes we prop up Nato, and keep other countries from having to have such large standing armies, but Nato is also evolving into a sort of free, or less restrictive trade alliance, that who knows how this will work out. Also we provide a huge amount of money to the UN, and vertually every problem coming down the pike. I just hope the people affected by this most recent disaster are granted the peace to contend with the trials ahead. It almost makes a person feel guilty planning on going tractor pulling in the next couple weeks.

Has anyone heard if Michael Moore or Bill Maher is pitching in with the cleanup? Maybe Jane Fonda will contact them. (I'm assuming they've heard there was a bad hurricane that hit the U.S.A. Of course they may be blind to this obvious fact too.)
