Casepower - aluminum parts...

I was brainstorming the other night, and came up with some you could probably cast for Deeres that would be pretty easy to pour and machine. "G" valve covers - the factory units are cast-iron and pretty heavy. Crankcase covers - same story. Covers for the 5th/6th sliding-gear on the LH side of the main-case. Maybe the big, heavy cast dashes/steering-shaft supports used on a lot of two-bangers - those are VERY heavy. Shift quadrants - would probably only save a pound or two, but that might make the different for someone. Depending on what kind of machining capabilities you'll have access to, an aluminum reduction-gear cover would save a BUNCH of weight. Pretty much all of these pieces are very rarely need replaced, so salvage yards are crawling with them, and you could get the originals to make your molds from for very little $$$. I'm not interested in building an super-light tractor, but I didn't see much for Deere items under your original post. Oh, and one more - how about upper and lower radiator tanks? Those cast-iron ones are HEAVY, and in a tractor that's in bad shape, they can be in pretty poor condition. A reasonably priced and fairly accurate aluminum unit might be the ticket instead of hunting all over for a good cast-iron one.

I don"t think John Deere would be a good brand to build parts for. They are lawsuit happy. Didn"t you here about 4020.com? He wasn"t even selling parts or tractors and was promoting John Deere tractors and John Deere collecting, but had a leaping Deere on the page. The Deere corporate lawyer sent him a a nice threatening letter. I think I will steer clear of the big green.

If he was using their trademark without permission, it's perfectly understandable that they took action. C-IH, Agco and all the rest would do exactly the same thing. If you're concerned, I'd be checking with a lawyer before reproducing anything. But I'm willing to be that if you don't use their logo, there's not a thing they can do. There are tons of companies out there selling repro parts for Deeres. Maybe you should contact them about the legality. Or better yet, Deere & Company itself. Not producing Deere parts is ignoring a huge potential market, as there are way more Deeres out there pulling than Cases.

How about upper bolsters for H's and M's, pedistals, brake and clutch pedals, motor mount blocks, Steering shafts, water pump housings, distributor housings, just to name a few, would be good sellers. Those parts alone would help get a H under 3500 and 3000lbs, with out chopping much more, and help get M's under 4500 to 4000lbs and still keep em stock in apperance. Just depends on how ambitious you feel. The water pump, and the distributor housings would be the top of my christmas list,,, the front bolster, would be a birthday gift! Loved the 300 in OPP. Chad
