G engine machine work

Hello all. I talked to my machinist yesterday and he gave me some quotes on the work I want done. $115 to bore the block and fit pistons, $50 to install hardened valve seats, and he'll recondition a set of rods for about $30 ($8 a piece to install and fit pin bushings). The only problem is that he can't offset grind my crank with the stone he has on his grinder right now, and he doesn't want to change stones until the other is worn out. I can't blame him for that, so I guess I'll have to have the crank done elsewhere. This guy is excellent and builds a lot of circle track and drag race motors, in addition to doing all of our machine work for the dealership. I was just curious how these prices compared to other shops around the country. I thought he was very reasonable. Also, I know this is not for classifieds, but does anybody have a set of decent inserted A rods for sale? I would be interested. Thanks, G-MAN.

The prices all sound about right.. especially if you are familiar with the shop and know that they turn out good work.. and are easy to work with.. I know what U mean by the offset grind.. Some machines only grind to 7in or 8 in.. so some can't grind the bigger strokes.. or the stone is not tall enough to clear the the rest of the rotating assembly.. I hope to get to Dallas next week to drop off a crank and a head... (can't let the locals know what I'm working on.. hahaa..) JDGnut

the reason he doesn't want to change stones is the radius on the stone plus every time you change you have to redress stone and radius.he is probobly set up for small and you need large radius.
