Mike,

Is it a typo on the website or are you actually having a 10000 lb class? As I recall, it has always been 9500, 10500, 12000. I'm just checking since it's one of the classes that I pull.

Whats going on w/the speed limits?
In the spring you let the small tractors go 5mph and held the big tractors to 3.5. I'm all for 5mph for everyone.

It seemed like most people didn't like the 3.5 limit. This time it will be 5mph for everyone.

I liked the 3.5. Why not offer a slow and a fast class like at Solanco? I know its more work but I think it makes for a great pull.

They sure didn't seem to have all that many tractors signed up for the fast class at Solanco. All those fast guys decided to stay down with us slow old Deeres. The only fast tractor that really seems more competitive because of the speed is Les Landis. You pretty well have to figure he's going to win darn near every class anyway. It must be tough needing a wheelbarrow to haul home the trophies!

Les should win as he has a 310 engine in his 880.
In other words that tractor should not even be allowed to pull in a "stock" tractor pull. Thats why Mason Dixon pulls are great for the stock guys with the low speed limit they have a chance. If you want high horsepower and want to go fast thats fine. But you have to spend some money to get that power. But I really believe that you should offer two classes--- a slow and a fast. What those limits should be I don`t know. But I will say that I think the slow should be around 3 mph and the fast should be 7 or 8 mph.

je anybody can put a high powered motor in a tractor. Les wins because he balances his tractor right and he finds good tires. The man has been pulling since they made the sport. You got to give credit where credit is due.

We give Les the credit he is the best. But when you have a 720 JD and have 65 hp and have to pull against Les and his 880 with well over 100 hp? Think about it? Les is the best there is no body better. He really knows what he is doing. We always like to see him pull. Yes thank you Im a cry baby thats me the big cry baby.LOL You guys get upset to easy. Just like you want to pull fast--- and I said thats great---some of us would like to have a place to pull slow. No big deal you pull fast and I want to pull slow. It all works together the more tractors you have the more money you make. So whats better? 75 tractors pulling slow , 75 tractors pulling fast , or 150 tractors with a slow and a fast class at 10 dollars a hook you figure it out! Hey don`t forget that Im the BIG CRY BABY HEY MAYBE NEXT TIME YOU LEAVE YOUR E-MAIL LOL.

I agree with the fast/slow thing. Even if you have both classes, Les is going to pull with us slow guys anyway. I have been able to compete with the fast tractors before. I've never beaten Les, but a few others.

This fast/high hp thing is not going to go away. It will come to a point where a guy with a stock tractor will be wasting his time with antique pulls. The speed is bad enough, but now we have to compete against cut tires. The rules say you have to declare your cut tires at registration. Yeah, right! There are a lot of top cut tires out there already that nobody will fess up to and nobody will do anything about it. It won't do any good to whine about it, just give em your best shot and hold your head high. I spend enough money just getting the tractors to the pulls and keeping them in shape. I can't afford thousands of dollars just to fill the shelf with $5 trinkets!

What they should really do is have a bull$hit class and Les and the 560 with the big block and all the stroked Ms can play with each other there. Hey it could alway be worse, I could be trying to pull with an 8N Ford!

560 WITH A BIG BLOCK? OH YOU MUST MEAN THE TRIPLE H TRACTOR OR MAYBE THE NEW MCGRADY 560? I don`t care how fast you go or how much you spend on your tractor. I just think there should be a slow and a fast class. And as far as Les if you lower the speed to 3 mph you will take away his power advantage. I pull my 720 at 1.5 mph and he pulls at 3.2 he still has a advantage. Les is good but I have seen Vernon Hurst and Jason Talley beat him along with others

What does Hurst and Talley run? They sound like guys that I would like to run against. I doubt it is an Oliver. What color is Les' tractor? If it is the one I've seen then it is the strongest naturally aspirated, non-turbo, no nitrous, stock manifold, updraft carb 880 on the east coast.

Also, je, Les may be running the 265 which was the factory replacement of the 265 in the 880. It is really hard to tell the 265, 283, and 310 apart. Most guys prefer the 265 because it has more meat. This would be equivalent to running a powerblock in a G. How many "stock" G's and 720's have claimed that? Too many to complain about a later version of the same wak. engine in a 880. It is a lot cheaper to build that engine strong than to put 0.100" overbore on a 2 cyl.

I've also heard the slow tractor/fast tractor debate. The 880 has a much better weight distribution than the 2cyl. Also, the smoother power curves allow the 6 cyl. to hold the dirt better instead of surging every other stroke. I've had putt-putt rules slow me down, but it doesn't make that much difference. And like I said above fast 6's are cheaper than keeping a stock 2 cyl. running. Les probably has less in his tractor than most "stock" tractors that I've seen. Why slow a tractor down? Isn't that what a 34,000lb weight transfer sled is for?

Bottom line, there is no such thing as a stock pulling tractor(or class for that matter). Somebody will always push the envelope. I sure that in the last 3 years everyone of the guys on this forum have pulled down and put a few more HP's in than is recorded on Nebraska tests. Some tractors are just easier(and safer) to speed up.
