What does Hurst and Talley run? They sound like guys that I would like to run against. I doubt it is an Oliver. What color is Les' tractor? If it is the one I've seen then it is the strongest naturally aspirated, non-turbo, no nitrous, stock manifold, updraft carb 880 on the east coast. Also, je, Les may be running the 265 which was the factory replacement of the 265 in the 880. It is really hard to tell the 265, 283, and 310 apart. Most guys prefer the 265 because it has more meat. This would be equivalent to running a powerblock in a G. How many "stock" G's and 720's have claimed that? Too many to complain about a later version of the same wak. engine in a 880. It is a lot cheaper to build that engine strong than to put 0.100" overbore on a 2 cyl. I've also heard the slow tractor/fast tractor debate. The 880 has a much better weight distribution than the 2cyl. Also, the smoother power curves allow the 6 cyl. to hold the dirt better instead of surging every other stroke. I've had putt-putt rules slow me down, but it doesn't make that much difference. And like I said above fast 6's are cheaper than keeping a stock 2 cyl. running. Les probably has less in his tractor than most "stock" tractors that I've seen. Why slow a tractor down? Isn't that what a 34,000lb weight transfer sled is for? Bottom line, there is no such thing as a stock pulling tractor(or class for that matter). Somebody will always push the envelope. I sure that in the last 3 years everyone of the guys on this forum have pulled down and put a few more HP's in than is recorded on Nebraska tests. Some tractors are just easier(and safer) to speed up.
