What are the best(as in most horse power) pistons for a late styled G that is bored .125? What head would be the best for horse power(heisler,70lp, or a unstyled flat head) and what are they worth?
Thanks Adam

Like you see there are opinions.. just depends on what you want to do.. If you are going to stroke it, go with the CAT piston or some custom set. (If you don't stroke it the piston will have to come past the plug hole to get the compression where you want, depending on the head) The customs have a slant top. On the head, the only 70 head that will fit is the 70Allfuel head.. and good luck at finding one.. and paying for it... You can have lots of work done to the stock head, and it will work good..

blackdog..something to think about on pistons are the rings..the g has 1/4 inch rings and 5 of them..last g i worked on with 1 inch stroke and .125 over pistons didn't match my a with 45 cubes less..g had more compression large valves and large manifold..wonder about drag of rings on horsepower and how well they seal compared to the new stuff..cat has 3 rings on the 5 3/4 and i think the same on the 6 1/4 pistons..these are from the d9..they are a lot thinner with less friction..merfeld had some custom 6 1/4 a few years used on a stroker g and worked very well..short compression height but might with a flat head..lynn

They never built a Heisler head for a "G". The F486R from 1938 to 1942 flat head used on late unstyled "G's" is a good choice for a styled "G". Caterpillar (I think D8) 6 1/4" pistons work well if you are going to stroke it nine or more inches. I got some of these if anybody needs any. Dave W.

Blackdog it is my opinion to go with M&W first followed by Clevite. For a G you are looking around $400 for a new set of pistons, rings, and wrist pins.
