We are building a 5 9/16 bore, in a dry block with a 6 1/8 inch stroke. The question is with the dry block, I was thinking, I should have a piston cooler installed in the block to help keep the heat down off the pistons. Is this a good choice for a pulling engine? I was going to install an external oil pump on the mag. flange drive, pumping oil from the oil pan and spraying it directly on the pistons in the crankcase. Does anybody out there have any answers or better ideas to make this pulling engine a last a long time?

Look at your options because it might be cheaper and easier to buy a 5.75 setup with pistons, rings, blocks, and head gasket, all ready to bolt on. They are dependable, run water in them, and last a long long time with no leaks.

Why Dry? You had better have a set of low drag rings to cut down on friction if running in a dry block unless its an aluminum block, There are lots of 5 3/4 bore molines with water in the block that hold up great, Heat Kills, but if you insist use the right rings and try to cool the pistons it should help but it won't be a "cure".
