My 46 John Deere A has aluminum pistons ....everything else pretty much stock. How would this tractor do in the 4500lb. Farm/Stock class?? Would it be short on traction or power or both??
Thanks to all replies.

If the tractor will make the 4500lb class it will depend on several things. 1. size and psi of tires. The wider the tire the better, at least 13.6X38 and run about 9-10 psi in rear tires.
2. RPMs you are running. Increase RPMs up 20%.
3. If you are running a distributor convert to electronic ignition and add a high voltage coil.
4. Run at least 89 octane gas if over standard bore.
If you run 87 octane you might get knocking for not having high enough octane fuel.
Just my opinion, I'm still fine tuning on my G. This is what I had to do on my G for pulling.

Terry,
The tractor is on 11x38 old hard tires on pressed steel rims.
Mag. ignition system
It pulls my 10foot disk real well but I have a feeling the old sled would make her humble real quick.

I thought your tractor muxt have pressed steel wheels since I have a 44A that weights 5000 with me on it. Good to see that the tires are old and hard. If you just doing this to see what the tractor will do pulling a sled then stay with the tires you have, if not I would invest in a pair of old 13.6X38s for more traction. I would still crank up rpms 20 percent. Also find a way to put some weight on the front they love to get light when that sled gets heavier.
Good luck at the pull. Going to one on Oct. 29 in GA.

I have a 46 A set up with .090 aluminum M&W pistons, electonic ignition. The only other work done to the block was I shaved 1/4" off the back of the block and some rocker arm stuff. Had it dynoed at 43 hp. Works good in the 4500# class but better in the 5000# in Div.1 & 2.
