Our loader tractor an 1850 Oliver with a 310 diesel just lost the tranny. We are transplanting the loader to another tractor. I know of an 88 diesel oliver on its last legs. Will the 1850 engine fit into the 88. I know similar questions have been asked, but I did not know if the diesels were different.

I thought 1850 diesels had perkins engines not 310 waukesha .Yes a 310 will bolt in a 88 frame with a few modifications, mainly the shaft between the engine and rear end have to be shortend.

Yup unless it has been swapped the 1850 diesel is a 354 perkins. The 1800 used the 310 Waukeshau in it. Now i think the 1855? had the 310 in it that was turbo"ed or maybe it was the 1950, I can"t really remember. If it is the 310 it will fit in an 88 with a few mods.

An 1850 was available with a perkins or a waukesha diesel. A 1950T has a turboed 310.

The parts book I looked at shows only the 310 Waukesha gas/lp engine and the 354 Perkins engine available in the 1850. The 1855 used the 310 turbo"d diesel or the 310 gas engine. If there was such a thing as a factory 1850 equipped with the 310 diesel, then you would be better off restoring it or selling it to a collector.

If it is a 310 Waukesha, it will bolt into your 88 with a few minor modifications. I knew I had seen 1850's with 310D's in them. I guess you have a collector tractor.

Oliver never made a gas 1855 or1955. dsl versions had a turbocharged 310. Similar but 1955 had an in block oil cooler, as did most 1855's after they blew up the original motors. 1850 has a 354 Perkins, 1850 gas has a 310 Waukesha 3&7/8th x 4&3/8th, 310 gas or dsl.will fit 88 frame, the Perkins used a different frame. If you have a 310 dsl. in an 1850 either it's a transplant or it's the only one made!

I stand corrected on the 1855 gas, glad I don't have to feed it $3.oo/gal. gas!! The perkins dsl. in an 1850 is naturally aspirated. We have had 2 1850's and some Massey combines and have found no reason to dislike the Perkin's engine!
