I have a set of 45 degree 14.9's on 12" rims. I need more traction from them and was wondering if 14 or even 16" wheels would help. I'm leaning toward 23 degree 16.9'son 16" wheels, but hate to give up on the tires I have now. (Cheaper!) Any comments? I know the subject of 23 vs. 45 tread is about worn out, but thanks for any replies.

I use 16" rims for my 14-9-38 and 18" rims for my 16-9-38. I used 14" rims on 15-5-38 and liked all these combinations. The only thing I would change is on the 15-5-38's if I went back to that size tire is I would go to a 16" rim. I run the 23 degree. All my frinds that pull go at least 2" wider and do very well. All I know is what works for me, hope this info helps you.

I have been told by a fellow puller that you can go with rims 2 inches wider than the tires. So with 14.9s you can put them on 16 inch rims. That will flatten out the tire for more tire will be able to "bite" into the tracks. Hope this helps. My $.02.:)
