Does anyone have a photo of a fabricated seat assembly they made for a pan seat type JD. Original seat assembly is quite heavy. trying to lose as much as possible. Tractor is 45 B, have already pressed steel wheels, no large gas tank, no breather assembly, no starter, smooth cover on rear. Trying to get in 3000 lb class. Currently weighs 2990 with me on it, need to lose more for front balancing. Max I can weigh is 3040. Thanks

toot A friend of mine had one built by a man in Withita. Made of aluminum and weighs around 7 lbs. Do you have hubs on your axles? You can make some plates and weld to the axles and save some weight there. Lynn

I"m curious, I"ve looked high and low for an aluminum radiator with no luck for my late styled B, where did you get yours? Thanks

You can find them on E-bay sometimes. mine came from a compact utility tractor. Can"t get it up to temp if I leave the water pump and fan on, no matter how hard you work it... Have to let it sit with just the pump running to even get above about140.

Check out aftermarket automotive performance parts catalogs like Summit and Jeg's. They're not going to have an aluminum radiator with a description that says "for JD "B"", but there are many radiator builders that build "generic" ones for varying applications in varying sizes.

Replacing that steel seat channel with a piece of aluminum channel should shave some weight.

- are your weight brackets and wheelie bars as light as they should be and still strong enough for what they need to do?
- How about the radiator? I replaced mine with an aluminum one that weighed 2 or 3 pounds. Just built an angle iron frame to hold the muffler, hood and radiator/fan. - You can cut off what you don't need of the rear axles
- welded on hubs
- Cut some holes in your rims
- The seat you seek, is this like on the unstyled? I think the '41 could come with what you are looking for as well.
- may sound stupid, but have you taken all your weight brackets off? I pull mine for the first class and add as needed.
- get rid of the fanshaft, replace with electric fan. Put your battery on the nose or disconnect for the actual pull.
- machining the frame rails is effective but expensive. Figure on $1/minute at the machine shop. And nothing happens as fast as you think it should. 1 day in a machine shop = $300-$500
- Make the pistons bigger (it'll make your block lighter)
- take some gear lube out.
- go on a diet.
