I am 19 years old and have been collecting and working on tractors since i been able to walk I bought a farmall 400 and stripped it to about 4900 pounds. In the motor it has a 281 cubes with a 60,000 volt coil and 110 octane gas. I am planning on pulling the 5500, 6500 pound class. Can any body that pulls farmalls give me some advice on what I can do to make the tractor pull better. Also it has 16.9/38 armstrong tires on the tractor what gear can i pull the tractor in.

Depending on the track if it loose I go up with the ta and if the track I pull it down otherwise I will run out of power faster.I tried pulling with trans in second but it seemed to run out of power early.

I pull with a 400 with 281ci. I don't know weather you have a fast hitch or not . I changed to a standard drawbar and shortened it to rules of where I pull. Helped alot. I pull in first and low with the TA . Tractor pulls very well at 7000lb and 8000lb class.

Put the coon-tune on that C-281 and you'll be able to run second, no problem!!! Those IH four cylinders amaze me, the torque and Hp you can get out of them is wild!!!
