Thanks guys, sounds like it will work, now I need to find a junk 560 for parts. It would be to expensive to build if I have to buy the parts one at a time. Thanks for the info.

Charles

If you're going through the bother for a non-stock engine, you might as well at least go with a 301 gasser. Or you can bolt a DT407 or DT466 in without anymore hassle than it is for the 263. We started out with a 291, and upgraded to a D361. Then punched it out a bit so that it now can run with most 466's in the same classes. The modifications needed weren't much different as the bellhousing bolts right up. Just need to make clutch/ringgear adjustments, lengthen the steering shaft and hood, and make your own throttle linkage. Use frame rails from new engine and shorten as much as possible just enough to get fan belt on - the extra inches of engine and frame rail will keep the front end on the ground in light classes so the shorter the better.

Have fun!

Hey Charles I would like to put a DT-407 in a 560 how would you go about doing this? thanks for any help.
P.S. I only want to run this tractor as a farm tractor baling hay, hauling manure, baling, and pull a 540 4-16 plow.

I like that!! The 263 will bolt right in the M bellhousing, use a 560 engine plate,, and the 560 frame rails, I think you could make the M front end bolt on to the 560 frame rails,, redrill some holes, or make a plate. You need to compare clutch parts,,, the measurement from the engine plate, to the edge of the starter ring, On the H and the 460, it was 4 inches, and did not have to space anything, so maybe you can get away with a 560 flywheel and put a M starter ring on it,, Just depends on if the spacing is the same,,, If the 560 clutch disk is the same as a Super M, you can use the SM disk in the 560 clutch,, to keep the input spline the same. Ive done a H with a 6 cyl, but not an M,,, yet,,,, but I would bet something would work out with very little alterations. Chad
