39 M'S DIDN'T HAVE SERIAL TAGS JUST SERIAL STAMPED INTO TOP OF FRAME RAIL.

SERIAL # 874 DOES NOT HAVE A SERIAL # TAG NOR DOES IT HAVE ANY HOLES IN THE BELL WHERE THERE EVER WAS ONE.

Maybe tag is missing and holes filled with grease, paint or cow manure. All 39 M's I ever saw had a tag.

MPULLER2, I'M NOT TRYING TO GET INTO A SQUIRTING CONTEST WITH YOU. THIS M WAS COMPLETELY SANDBLASTED AND NO HOLES WERE FOUND. I ASKED SOME OTHER FELLOWS ABOUT IT AND WAS TOLD 39'S WERE LIKE THE F20'S WITH THE # STAMPED IN THE FRAME. I HAVE NOT SEEN ANOTHER 39 TO LOOK AT. IF YOU HAVE 5 OF THEM WITH TAGS THEN THEY MUST HAVE HAD TAGS FROM NEW I'M NOT DOUBTING YOU. ARE THEY LATER VIN'S? HOW MANY WERE BUILT IN 39?

FROM WHAT IHAVE SEEN AND HEARD, THE EARLY M"S HAD THE FRAME STAMPED UP UNTIL 2500 OR SO.VERY VERY EARLY DIDNT HAVE TAGS. HAVE SEEN A COUPLE OF THE FIRST 200 AND NO TAGS AND NO HOLES FOR TAGS, JUST STAMPED FRAME AND ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER.

I'll look up numbers and report back. I know one is quit early, other 4 in middle of production numbers. It will be after Christmas before I get to shop and get numbers. Have a nice Christmas.

yes the number was stamped on the frame rail just like the f-20's and the f-20's had a serial number tag also.

I don't know about M's but on H's the '39 cover is much lighter than the regular cover. As for the cover and the serial number tag, yes those are desirable as a pair but if you put them on a non '39 tractor it shouldn't make it any more collectable. Anyone that knows the casting codes can tell it is not a '39.

I would think, with all of the aluminum tops being made, that the demand for the 39' slot tops has decreased dramatically.
