Im setting up an IH 1066 to pull and I was wondering what size tires to get. I have access to a set of 18.4x38 23 degree Firestones but thought maybe 20.8x38 would be better. Im planning on pulling in the 12500lb class. Any advice would be appreciated.

no diff needed,if this is going to be a build-up it would only get pitched anyway.
i would also steer clear of the radials unless you have another use for them or plan on staying under 650hp.
once you get enough power they will bounce and jump all over the track and just can not put it to the ground.

So would radials be good or bad for Farm Stock? Im only planning on some small modifications for awhile.

work good in out-of the field upto about 600hp,at first you can add more are to take the bounce out of them but later there was nothing i could find to get them to stay on the track.
to start with they work great.

We run 20.8 38s on a 1066. Some in our association run the 18.4 42s. You should run it for a while with one set to see if you need the bigger diameter tire or smaller one. We tried radials and it hopped bad. Also don't get to much tread, throws to much dirt in front of the sled.

Thanks for the info. Does anybody know where I could get a set of used tires in or around Pennsylvania? How much tread? 50-60%???

if you have the power, run a 18.4 x 42 tires,of course firestone 23 degree radials.
i pull my 1466 and it has 20.8 x 38 firestone 23 radials, but we have a hp limit, in the classes we pull, plus i farm with it.

Thanks for the reply. I have another question. Would it be better to have a tractor with diff. lock? The tractor I have now doesnt have it. Id like to know before I go putting a bunch of money into this one. Thanks.
