On my IH M I run a IH h-4 magneto but I also have a IH distributor set just setting on the shelf. Im wondering which is better for making power? Which unit would you perfer and why? Thanks for replies.

Hi Poppin. I also like the mags. I run one on my "M" and on my "U". I eliminated the starter, generator and battery on both which is about 100lbs per tractor. The down side is now they're crank start. Everyone says I'm nuts but when you get them tuned right they're pretty easy to start. As far as a hot enough spark goes, if you've ever been bit by one with a hot coil in it ,it will knock you on your kiester!

PoppinJohn, I have run a Magneeders mag on my pullin tractors for about 12 years now. Ive never had any problems with them ever. I dont know much about the IH distributors or IH mags. However, I do go on the idea of " the simpler the better". If it works dont prick with it. I have never seen any gain in horsepower either. The MSD hotboxes that I see on tractors may provide a nice hot spark ,but Im not sure there would be a big gain in power.( Im sure Dennys would tell you otherwise). In a stock application I dont think it would matter what you use. If your talking about a pullin tractor your gonna get about 2000 different opinion on this subject. Ive used some of those MSD boxes and hot coils and nuclear spark plugs and just didnt see a difference in performance. I myself prefer Mags over the other. Just my opinion Thanx Tyler
