Has anybody spent time figureing out the Hp increases from adding things like MSD electronic ignition boxes, hall effect trigger systems i.e. Petronics ect. I know there is power to be made but how much as well what about Dist. recurve and its benifits. Thanks T-D

I run a full electrontic ignition but I don't have the data to say whether or not I gain/lost HP. However, I feel that these things help maintain the hp that the engine can produce. Certainly recurving a distributor will help maintain the hp produced. Take a Deere for example, most distributors are at full advance between 600-800rpm. Very little timing curve. Have a person like Motec recurve the springs and weights and you will notice a tractor that can hold on longer. Just my opinion not much data to support it.

burns..do you dyno set you timing and how much timing do you run on your tractor..set mine by the dyno and run a mag on a john deere a..with the compression have to retard the timing by turning the govenor one tooth back to get the timing right..going to check some tractors with advance timing light..guess they are about 18 degrees..lynn

With a MSD unit, it needs to be done on the dyno. I usually use the dyno any way. Local guys that use timing lights are running around 20-25 degrees. I'm guessing 18 would be a little tight. I'd becareful on shut down that it doesn't go running the other way??

Hope this helps
