Oliver 1650 Gas

I know this question isn't related to pulling, but I figured you guys would be the most knowledgable. I have an Oliver 1650 Gas that we use on the farm, it has a 3.875" M&W oversize sleeve and piston kit in it, and I just can't seem to get enough fuel in it. I would like to do something with the carburetor to make it match the engine again, but I have no idea who to go to. Based on other posts, I am afraid to go to Denny's. Anybody have any ideas? Keep in mind, this is a farm tractor and I have a pretty shallow pocketbook!

Have you taken the carb off and cleaned it out good? Also you can take the main jet out and get a larger jet they have a # on them. You can go one or two sizes larger. Or you can take a drill and drill it out larger but just go one drill size larger at a time. A little will make a big differance. Dave

A number of years back my dad had the same problem with his 1600 after new oversize pistons were put in. Dad is dead and I was not there but the oliver dealer opened the power jet. They did it in the field plowing to set it rather than taking in on the dyno. The guy that did the work bought out the dealership and may remember how much and what all he did. He is in Angola Indiana at 219-665-2611. His name is Leon and he would be the only one that wonld know any thing about it. Just tell him it was Weir Lemmons 1600 He bought the dealership from my uncle so he will know what you are talking about. Best I can do.

if it's popping, and jurking, and caughing on you, it might be an ignition related problem. I'd try an ignition tune up to start with, since it's cheap. If the tune up doesn't seem to help , and you don't think it has anything to do with your cam, than I'd contact Robert's Carburetor Repair at 404 E 5th St. Spencer, IA 51301. Ph:712-262-5311. I know that they do good work on Deere carburetors, So I imagine they would do well on your Oliver. Good Luck, Greg H.

Why do you think you are not getting enough gas in it.

What are the symptoms and what do the spark plugs look like.

As far as symptoms, we purchased the tractor with the M&W kit already in it, about 3 years later, I had to replace the pistons because the top was badly burnt on three of them. Everything from the piston to the head to the inside of the muffler is white or tan. It is now nine years later and I am replacing sleeves and pistons due to wear, but I still see the pitting on the top of the pistons. We have survived the last nine years by running with the choke pulled slightly, and not pulling the tractor as hard as I would like. I cannot seem to be able to adjust the carb enough to get rid of the white color. I have asked several reputable mechanics and most agree the trator is running too lean and therefore has a heat problem. I am open to any help you guys might offer, running with the choke pulled cannot be helping my horsepower.

This might sound like a smart axe remark but put anything bigger on it. Use and 1850, 1800 carb. A friend of mine had and old cast iron carb rebuilt and had holley jets put in so it could be tuned. You have got a leaning problem but it sounds like something is wrong with the carb or intake leaking like the man said. Are all cylinders lean. I have never seen a carb i couldn't make run rich unless the jets were stopped up.

sure you don't have a vacume leak around the intake? assuming it is running lean,I would check for this.I use propane,squirt around the area of the head whereintake meets.do this while it is running. see if it surges.be careful when doing this.you can use carb cleaner/WD 40 or anything like that if you don't want to go with propane.
