I think it is a real shame that some of you puller's think the only way you can tractor pull is with RPM. Look at the DEERE that broke in half. That is another example of rules bent to the extreme limit. If you want to run high RPM on these engine's and fan blades that are 50 yrs. old you are going to kill someone and NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO ENJOY THIS GREAT SPORT. These tractor's were never designed for RPM. THANK YOU PULLER's FOR YOUR SUPPORT.EARL SEAMANDS

Why was the 560 not allowed to pull in the open class?

You are correct. Someone was caught and checks were re-issued to the effected pullers.

I went to Sigourney, appeared to be way down on tractors from where it normally is. On Sunday especially, there were no open tractors there. Kinda makes you think that they should change the rules (10% on rpms to 30%) in an attempt to gain more tractors. I know that alot of tractors refuse to come because of this out-dated rule. Also, I feel that they should change how the pull itself is ran and run the track the other way so that tractors have a door to go out of and will not be running into the packer tractors. It a miracle to me that they've never had that happen. I've always liked attending the pull at Sigourney, but if they don't change how they run the pull, I don't see it lasting much longer.

I agree 100%!! The Aller's put on a "class pull", BUT, the rpm needs to be updated for the opens! USAP/NATPA all run more than 10%. If they'd go 1959 and older like div 5, go 20-30? on rpms, the open tractors WOULD be there!! After running all winter, you see a lot of open tractors not attending Sigorney now due to the rules! Hopefully, Aller and crew won't have the "who cares" attitude, BUT try to work with everyone! Sigourney, IA started this winter pulling craze, it just needs some "tuning" to get caught up with 2002 and beyond!! Hopefully, 2003 they'll try this...the tractors will be there!!

The pull is not mine, or my father's. It is and has always been a team effort by the Keokuk County Exposition Board members and a bunch of great volunteers.

We are very aware of the limits that we are putting on our numbers by not "opening up" the RPM limits, and we miss seeing some of the good pullers that won't attend because of it. But our facility and insurance will not support an increase in RPM. With the bleachers just 10 feet from the pulling track it is just too much of a risk to take. We try to improve the pull from year to year, and gladly take suggestions from the pullers.

Jon-You guys do a great job and the effort by all volunteers is much apprciated! Why can't on the open classes you move everyone back, beyond the bleachers! The crowd would be no closer than at most other pulls! Also, can your insurance be updated OR changed?! It'd seems it'd be worth a try to check. I liked the idea of pulling to the open door also! What about that? Also, what about going 1959 and older to allow a few other competitors in..even if you had to stay at 10%, although I think if you can get the crowd back and go 30%, Sigourney's open classes again would rule supreme!!

Jon-
I think, like I said earlier, if you would run the sled the other direction in the building, it would allow the open tractors a place to go if their hitch would break (at 10 % or 30% it can happen!) without running into the packer tractors. They could be parked safely along the side where the scales are currently located. I think you should try to push for these changes (rpms and sled location) for the up coming year. I would hate to see a pull as great as the Expo Spring Nationals flame out due to a stubborness to change.

What's the big deal about pulling your tractor and setting back the rpm down 10% ? I know your cam grind plays a role, but if you want to pull at Sigourney, play by their rules. Remember- they started this winter pull stuff. The world of antique tractor pulling is not all based on the NATPA! No- I'm not a NAPTA Sucks person, I pull with them, and enjoy it. I'm just saying, they have their reasons. You have limits on what you can do and say sometimes, when dealing with a fair board.
