Let me start out with this is not my first time of getting hubs off of a tractor. I am working on a 1949 John Deere G I have been at this now 4 weeks now and during the week have consumed 1 can of Kroll and am on my second can of PB blaster and some other good name brands followed by taping with a 5 LBS hammer .
I made a 4 inch U channel puller ( 2 welded back to back with center bolt and 5/8/ rerode to the rims 18 inches apart .) Results egg shaped washers.
Made up 4 inch square x ¼ inch washers Results are stretched rerode like an hour glass. And flexed U chanel.
New rerode .
Results pulled thread on the rerode and out of the nuts .
Made new puller . ( 1 inch thick plate drilled holes to put 3 7/8 rodes in to hub where hub bolts go . Made center stud on plate for 10 ton porta power ram..
Results bent porta power handle .
Keeping in mined I have heated this with a big rose bud torch 5 or 6 times during this time frame. I have tried an old wife’s tail of melting in Paraffin wax to break the rust and lubricate it.
New puller # 3 10 ton air over Hydraulic this time . mixed with 18 LBS 6 foot slide hammer trying to push hub in then out .
Results broken slide hammer foot. ( exploded in to 3 pieces ). And 1 Really sore back.

Next weekend I will try driving tractor working breaks to break loose hub if that does not work the only thing left that I know of is. A. squeeze shop cat to Pee on it.

B. Have 3 or 4 Barley pops and then set on fire rolling it down A big hill towards a pond .
Unless you folks have other suggestions in mind for me to try.
Thanks, for any help Northeast puller

Are these hubs different than the style used on the "A" and "B"....that is, with a Steel Collar over the splined wedges..??? Can't you use 2 of the bolts in the "Pusher Holes" to push the collar off the hub..??

I have a simillar problem with a JD 630..but the Jackbolts are stripped.!!! Been working on that one for a while..maybe I will just cut the hub in pieces and put another wheel center on it..!! Ron.

I removed mine with a 1 inch plate, drill three holes in it and use grade 8 theaded rod, i think 5/8 or 3/4 cant remember,. put the center of the plate over the axle and the three threaded rods through the 3 holes in the hub, then just tighten up each threaded rod a little at a time and it will come off, before this I used a portapower, jacks, a little heat and it didnt move. My G had the bolt in style hubs (6 bolts hole the hub to the wheel casting) I was told I could of also cut them off so you can remove it in two pieces (halfs) and you can reuse them with no problem's

ALL JOHN DEERE HUBS EVENTUALLY FREEZE,THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME WITH A 620,630 AND 530.
1.CUT A FOUR INCH WELL CASING WITH OFFSET ON 1/2 HALF OF THE LEADING EDGE CORRESPONDING T0 THE WEDGE YOUR ATTEMPTING TO LOOSEN. COVER THE OUTSIDE END WITH 1/2 INCH PLATE STEEL WELDED OVER THE TOP WITH A 1 FOOT HANDLE TO HOLD THE REMOVAL DEVICE.2.JACK THE WHEEL FREE FROM THE GROUND. 3.SLIP THE DEVICE OVER THE AXLE AND HAVE A TRUSTING FRIEND USE A SLEDGE HAMMER TO JAR THE WEDGE LOOSE.4.3-5 GOOD LICKS WILL FREE THE WEDGE.GOOD LUCK (WATCH YOUR FINGERS)!!!!

WOW, you must really love that tractor. I can understand that after all it is a G. I have had some success with driving several large chisels into the slots in the hubs while you are pulling. Don't drive them in too tight it will wedge, there is a sweet-spot. Just tighten them up and tap them in further. I have done this on several occasions and it has worked. Good luck!!!

Thanks, LRN
