Have an tractor puller buddy who has a 9.5" g stroker crank, with a power block !
This individual wants to run 6.5" x 9.5" .
Who would you recommend for custom pistons, and billet rods ?
Do you have an opinion of how long a rod to run, and where to set wrist-pin height ?
With the rite head work, does 130hp sound reasonable.
Also would you advance cam timing, said person has a cam ground to a specific spec. , don't no if that is correct !

Just looking for an opinion on a good stout build-up.

Any help would be greately appreaciated !

Bud, 180HP isn't unreasonable. After all you didn't tell us what you wanted to run for RPM... Crank her up to 3000 RPM's and stay back 500 feet. you should be fine.

130 horse wont happen 100 maybe.the bigger G's are 7.5" by 9 3/4" plus very few make 125 horse. rods can be welded heinrichs or schooler should be able to help with pistons. as far as rod length as long as is possible is best.Paul

Murphy's Motor Service can make billet pistons and billet rods www.murphysmotorservice.com

Unless you get in a space crunch, I would put the wrist pin as high up in the piston as I could get it w/o getting into the oil ring.

I agree with G/MAN, 120hp sounds a lot more realistic than 130.

You say you have a reground cam, do you have the cam card that should have come with the camshaft? If so, it should tell where the intake centerline should be when it is degreed in. If you dont have the cam card, its kind of a guess as to where to put it. Most of my "A" cams are to be set up with the intake centerline 104-106/107 degrees ATDC. Depending on what exactly you have, this may be a good place to start. Degreeing in your camshaft IS important. If you just put the camshaft in and dont degree it in, it may be close, or it may be somewhere off in never-never land. EVERY cam is a little different.

I don't know if had any cam modifications, but I will share a short story: I had a friend with a 6.5 X 9 model G with a cam ground by lunati. Had no torque at all. He put the F900R G/70 cam back in and it came to life. I not saying cam modifications are a bad thing, but the grinder needs to know a lot of variables before the work is done. Your dealing with a low rpm engine, etc. not a hot rod.

I'm not the "Gman" you want. Get with JDGnut, Gman, Earl S. or one of the other guys on here that knows way more about building "G"s than I do. I would say that billet rods probably aren't going to be necessary, and are going to add a considerable chunk to the bill. A good friend of mine has a "G" in the 700+ cube range, and he's used welded rods for years and years with no problems. He's running a Power-Block sleeved to 7 inches, Jahns pistons, Jerry's head and manifold, etc. I think the stroke is 9 3/8" or so, but I'm not exactly sure. It's a pretty stout tractor, and we figure it to make 100 horsepower pretty easily. Maybe up in the 120 range. I'd say getting 130 horses from 630 cubes is going to be a big stretch.

Bud, that G would be a good one, If its the one Im thinkin,, Gman, he keeps breaking cranks in it, he really dont work the engine that hard, it just seems to have no torque on the low end. just falls on its face. Im not knocking that G one bit now,, but he does need some help with it! To me, it sounds like the cam is not right for it, it just wont lug out. he really dont abuse it,, it just seems like when it does get to running good, it breaks, For what he has done to it, it should run lik a scalded dog! It just,, dont sound right... The deep resonating 2 lunger pop aint there. it sounds kinda lazy. hope this would hep a little more with some info on it,, Chad

I seen Darrel at goshen, but he left the big G at home. he is driving truck, and gosh knows what,,, he is still around, and still has the G. He needs to come out and play. that G, I never seen break, only a tranny gear one night at Argos. Super Strong G, and in my opinion, done right. Now if you ever seen Mike Thompson's 37 A, that was a stout SOB!!! That was before your time in NCIATPA,, but an honorable mention. Chad

The ones that dropped out of the modified division, and into the farm stock division. AND, the tractors that have to be altered to keep up. LMAO! ChadS
