If you are going to pull in low gear, forget about the rods. A 620 is already a ballsy tractor. If you plan on going 2nd gear or more, added stroke will be needed. Going .125 oversize, mild head work (cleaning up ports, etc. shave .125 off the head) propane manifold, cut out the divider in the intake so it will draw off both barrells in the carb will make a very strong low gear tractor with the creeper gear.

The LP manifold uses the same bolt and port patterns, it is just seperate pieces that don't connect to each other.

A good shop should be able to make them, I have made them using a set of cheap roller rockers, cut off the roller end and cut off the 620 rocker and mig weld them or tig weld them together, you have to be able to do this very accurately so you get the geometry right, also run some longer rods, get a good multi angle valve job, use the 620 LP manifold set, the ignition is good on a 620 , just get the points changed over to electronic trigger and use a timing light to get things back on track, some porting on the head is a good idea, and get a roberts cam or a sonny bullet cam, both good, think sonny is better.

From what I've seen, the 620 LP manifolds are pretty hard to find. Is anybody making their own version of separate intake/exhaust manifolds? I think that is one area that can be a big gain over the stock heated setup.

Also, do you have any recommendations for longer rods or do you have to weld them up?

check for those manifolds on ebay, I have seen them there before, or put an ad in the classifieds, there out there and not too badly priced and most in real good shape due to no heat chambers or carbon. You will have to see what pistons you have and do a little math to get those rods longe, and yes welded rods will be fine and durable, and tons cheaper than 1 piece rods, check with Keith Merfeld for the rods.

Thanks alot for the advise first off.Iam planning on using .125 over pistons but by increasing rod lenght will i have to do any grinding to the back of the crank case?

You can't find the HP difference on a dyno let alone the track between 45,90 or 125 over pistons. Save the block walls for the next re-bore. Nobody is casting 620 blocks anymore. The LP pistons, cam, rocker arms, nail head valves, multi angle valve job, valve bowl blending, port matching and dry air filter will allow you to pull just about any class in 2nd gear. Forget about the stroking. Overboring is only worth it if it bored out almost through the outer block casting then sleeves silver soldered in. I would spend my $$$ 1st on some awsome biting set of tires and work on the weight balance. Then pull in creeper gear and win some prizes in order to tick off the modified tractor owners.

A small increase in rod length should not affect crank clearances. You are only using a longer rod and not increasing the stroke.

JD Hauler,

Is it worth taking say 0.050" to 0.100" off the head to increase compression or is that not feasible? We're not looking for anything radical, just would like to get the compression up toward 7 to 7.5:1 rather than 6.2:1. That head sure looks like it has a lot to give with that deep eyebrow.

Like I said above you can easily take off .125 from the head, probably more. G and 70 tractors up to .250 safely. You can also mill off the front of the block. I see no need of a welded rod unless you are stroking. Aluminum pistons generally are a tad longer than the cast irons. Buickanddeere is correct actually about bore. I would only go .045 over what you have now.

Try Schooler, he has them for the A-B-G"s. Probably can fix you up also. (660) 748-4475
