I am about to be building a 60. I just wanted to run over the plans i have and see what some people think. 6.25 powerblock,cat pistons,9.25 or 9.5 crank,ported/polished and valves done,cam grind,msd ignition,dry air filter ect. What kind of hp could i expect. any suggestion I am wanting to pull 12500# antique class competively

Why try to take a little tractor best suited for the 5500 & 6500lb classes and over match it by twice? Start out with a 820 or 830 and build from there. They are at home in the 10,000 & 12,500 classes.

There ain't nothing like taking something thats not supposed to in the class and making it to be competitive in that class. Just to see the look on the peoples faces that have never seen anything like that. Its all just fun.

That combo should get you to the 90 HP range. a 9.5" crank will result in a thin cross-section on the cam. We had one bend with .550" thick on the flats, and know of another that thickness that also gave up. Are you re-sleeving the block? As JDGnut said you can't reliably bore the existing sleeve that far and expect it to live long. 6.125" is a piece of cake, use the Curtis -Wright airplane pistons (6.118-6.120 bore), about $300 new w/rings, and they are nice and short. Mike n Mo how long would you say the curtis-wright airplane pistons are. I am working on getting a measurement on the cat pistons. This is my first tractor i'm building for pulling so i do no much about what all you can do. I am looking for the most power i can get without going to the extreme. thanks

I think the airplane pistons are 2.605" compression height (center of pin to top of piston). They have a little smaller wrist pin (about 1.5"). The Deere pistons are around 5" comp height depending on which one you have. With that big of crank you will be pulling the wristpin way out of the sleeve using that tall of piston. Mike

yes i am resleeving the block. Going to bore the block to fit a sleeve that is 6.250. The cat pistons are 6.251 will have to bore the sleeve .001 or so. will that be okay. Would it be better to go with a 9.25 crank in that case.

How are the sleeves held into the block? If the pistons measure 6.251", you will need to bore it a lot more than .001". Or are you saying they are clearenced to fit a 6.251" hole?

If the pistons are as long as a Deere piston, you will run into problems with a big crank because of a short connecting rod and pulling the wrist pin a mile and a half out of the bore at BDC. I dont understand why you would cut material off the bottom of the piston.

I have used a 9.375" crank with a 2.75" crankpin and the cam ends up around .680" or so. I havn't had any problems at that thickness. How tall are the pistons? You don't want the rod to short. 14" plus is where the rod length should be. Mike

could i cut some of the bottom off the piston to make it shorter or would i run into problems. As close to the wrist pin as possible.

I am not sure how long the pistons are but they should be just about the same as the deere pistons.

6.25 is going to get pretty thin on the liners in the PB... You could go with the 6.1 Pratt pistons Or just go big and have the block sleaved to 6.5 or 6.75.. When you start going to the big pistons.. don't get the rod journals too small..
