I have been told there are 2 different types .One operated by a cable and one controlled by a lever.If so is one better than the other? Tx DR

Danny; There were two manufactures of a 9 speed for the Farmall 'M'. M&W were the most popular.
The other brand was a Hisler. The Hisler only was a lever shift. The lever was on the left side of trans with Hisler. The M&W had both cable or lever shift. The lever was on the right side on the M&W. The M&W's are mechanicaly the same other than the way they are shifted. I tend to prefer the lever style myself. I believe the M&W was a stronger unit. I have both style M&W's that I would sell but I would think you could find one closer than Michigan.
