I currently run the u.s.a.p. super farm 3 mph class. I have 52 hp and do well with 15.5 tires,in the 5500-6500 pound classes. do I need more power to run 18.4 cut tires in the 4 mph class? if so how much, and whats the best way to get it

The guys below are right, if you are looking to pull in second gear. The only USAP I pull at is Cleveland. I usually pull up to 7500 at that pull, I tried the 5500 in 2nd and it was more than my tractor wanted. (7500 was no problem on that track, but I have seen others.) Like other below have said, it will depend on the track. And I am pulling out more HP than you.. Also remember the added weight of the 18.4, you may have to strip the G a little more for the 5500 class.
Good Luck

You'll have to do a stroker to be happy by what you want to do. Call Keith merfeld in Iowa and he could set you up pretty reasonable, I hear a crank is going for 1000 bucks. He did work for me a few years ago and it's been good, way less money than schooler.

A lot depends on the type of tracks you have and whether you're content to run 1st gear or 2nd gear. On a power track in the 5500 it'll take around 65-70HP in 1st and somewhere around 75-80 HP for the 6500. On a looser track with the same power you might be able to go up a gear in the 5500. As to getting more, do as Jack said and stroke it, and if you're doing it you might as well go to 9.25" or 9.5" to start with, bolt on one of Jerry's heads, have carb ported, and get a cam with a little more duration. Nuthin a few thousand bucks won't take care of. Mike

To do what you want to do you need to stroke the crank. At least an inch possibly two.Get ready to drop come serious bucks.Good luck and go for it.When my ship comes it I plan on it too.Later.Jack
