Is anyone out there pulling with an IHC W-9? We're building one now and will be pulling with her soon and was kind of wondering how they've done for other folks using them. Also, if you've got any tricks/suggestions to share for my old rig that would be great too. Thanks.

WHERE ARE YOU PULLING THE W-9?
WHY DON'T YOU BUILD A 70JD?
ARE YOU A "IH COLLECTOR"?

Why build the W-9??? Cuz if your rig ain't RED, then it ain't right!... No, actually because it's my dad's and it's been in the family for ever. Plus, when the W-9 is done it will go nicely with the W-4 and W-6 we've got and complete the trio. We'll pull the W-9 partly because it's being built up a bit, partly for the family heirloom factor, and because it's one rarely seen at pulls in our area.

Yes I pulled with a W9 last year and will again this year. I pulled in 6500, 7500 and 8500. 6500 was my best class. It's usually a little heavy on the front end in 6500. You will have to adjust hitch length depending on chain length and position on sled. I never ran out of power even in 8500. My tractor is stock but the guy we bought it from thought he had put M&W pistons in when he overhauled it 25 years ago. I have pulled with a 52 A JD , 52 U MM and a 49 DC Case. The W9 has gotten me the most wins. They are real good pulling tractor.

We owned a W-9 for a year or so. The tractor itself was all original and ran rather rough. Even though it was in need of a much needed overhaul the ol' brute never lacked for power (just some time for the rpm to build up). The tractor was equipped with factory fenders and what appeared to be factory fender extensions. Also, it had solid plates on the inside of the rear wheels. All together it weighed around 8100lbs. We have a gentleman who pulls a W-9 in our club who does well and is always competitive. The link provided show what the ol' brute looked like.

Mark can only tell I have a friend with one and it and my R in the 8500# are split on wins. Now in the 9500# up I get him with no problem. He has done some work on the head, but don't know what all, not to much I think.
Now I have beat stock WD-9's with my JD-D, but sure wasn't because they powered out.
There some guys here and over on the IH side that sure will be of more help than me. Good luck with a mighty fine tractor, as they all are.
