Well, fellas I am now looking for an unbiased opinion. I know I was on here last week and had asked you about the Denny's manifold and I now have a problem. Manifold seems to work good and I also installed an electronic ignition and hot coil. The tractor seems to work well up to 2000 rpm's. From 2000 on it starts to cough and seems like it isn't getting enough fuel. We advanced the timing and tried to "tweak" the cough out but she is not responsive from 2000 on up. In case you don't remember my tractor It is running a 4 1/8 bore, lunati cam, professionally balanced and bluprinted, 450 head (w/ extensive work--350 small block valves and custom stems) and the governor weights have been gutted. It will turn 4100 rpm's not under major load. Nevertheless, I have a problem since i put on the ignition, coil and manifold. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I INSTALLED ELECTRONIC IGNTION..WILL NEED A RESISTOR ON COIL..THAT FIXED MINE..IF YOU ARE PUTTING THIS MUCH INTO IT,I WOULD RECOMMEND A MSD BOX..WILL RESPOND ALOT FASTER....HOPE THIS HELPS

Are you running a resistor on the hot wire on the coil? Maybe you have burned a wire up somewhere with the new setup. Thats a pretty hot ignition, older wires mite burn up with all that power. the wires with the fiber core burn quick. Put a resistor on it if your not running one,, So,, 4100 rpms!!!! I seen that post earlier,, But I bet thats just high idle right? Probably when you pull, it dont see much over 3000 under a good load on the engine right? If thats the case, put the governor back on it, you can get the IH governor to run 3200 rpm, if that M has a stock flywheel, hopefully its balanced with the crank, and it is good, and you have been lucky,, that it hasnt came apart. If you guys did something to make it safer, then Ok then, we dont have to get into the details, You got a scatter blanket on it at least right??? That manifold wont feed the cyl's evenly, #1 and #4 cyls run leaner, and 2 and 3 run richer. Its untunable for peak performance because it throws the air off so much. Double check the wires, and look for a vacuum leak, if not, put the parts you had on it again, till the problem goes away, then you know whats going on,, get a refund on any purchased parts, or replaced. That tractor would run alot better with a governor,, JMHO,, ChadS

Now, remember first off that I'm no expert. But to better diagnose the problem, a little more information is in order. Did you do any carb work? Drill out jets? Change venturis? Venturi size will affect total airflow, and jet size will affect total fuel flow. How about the distributor? You mention converting to electronic ignition...did you do anything to make sure the advance is functioning? Did you check the springs? Is it the IH distributor, which sits horizontal, or the Delco, which sits upright?

Not sure I can answer ANY of your problems, but with this additional information, I'm sure SOMEONE here can.

Venturi has been worked on extensively, main needles have been changed. We stiffened the advance springs in the distributor and it has an IH distributor.
