I have come across a set of NOS M&W 6 1/8 bore LP pistons. Will they work OK in my JD 70 gas? Will I need to sleeve the engine? Will I be able to burn reg. gas. Or, will I need a higher octane gas? (8.0 comp)
Thanks, JH

Yep-AP143's, You'll have to run high octane gas though.
I've got a set of AP141's which are the gas 6.5:1 compression in 6 1/8
My block was bored and sleeved.

Thanks to everyone for the info. Don't know if I want to go through the expense that the project will probably require.
Maybe I should look for some smaller pistons with less compression. I'll have to think about it. Maybe put them up for sale.

I have a standard bore 70 block out in the shop right now, and it looks like there's plenty of material there to bore it .250. As for the question about gas, if your c.r. is going to be 8:1, then yes you will need at least 100 octane to keep it happy. Should see a nice HP gain with this project.

It will run fine on pump 92 octane at the most. Or blend some 100LL with 87 tractor gas.

We got a 70 gas trying for 6-1/8th bore. 2 cracked blocks later,,, finally sleeved it like a power block is. Using G pistons,, Dont know if it holds water, just got the block back, Looks good though! ChadS
