How much can I stroke the crank of a 1947 G without having to modify the transmission case cover? I have heard some people say they have to modify the cover with a bell curve in it so the crankshaft can clear it safely. Any input would be appreciated.

TMT, that's a good question. Depends on your rods. For example, stock stroke on a B is 5.5 and you can stuff a 7" crank in there with the right rods and not even get into the rear case, much less go thru it.

Talk to your guy you are going to use to stroke the crank. If he can't recommend a good rod/stroke combo, talk to someone else. If you're trying to minimize work, and maximize clearance, I'd say A,B,G rods are out of the question. Look for a "hook" type rod, rather than the straight on rod in a 2 cyl Deere.

8.375 it about max.. depending on what rods you want to use.. You can probably get 8.5 if you change the studs in the rods.. or cut the nuts down... but you will have to notch the top of the case.. and the cam... Using A Rods... JDGnut

not much;maybe 5/8 or a little more on a g.I know 5/8 on an A is about max without cutting out the cover.
