We pulled our 8-N saturday it was our first time and we only pulled 47.9 ft.We didnt place but it was great fun! We want to setup a tractor so we can place sometimes. 1st place was a A.C.model B.in 3400LB class. Can we get our A.C. styled WC down to 3400lbs? Or should we try to get our 8N adjusted better, we can only have 24 hp. And it has to be built before 1959.What would you guys do?Thanks Mike.

Yes California. Also the rules sounded like those run here. In that class farmal H rule. They just make weight, have bigger moters, and slower 1st gear. I think your 8-n will have a hard time. Look into moving up A class. 4000lbs. 40 horse gives more choise in tractors.

Yes but you would still olny have 24 horse and the farmall has a lower 1st gear. Your A C in 4000 pound 40 horse class will compete. I am in the same boat as you with my TO30. Not enough motor and a tall 1st gear. Geting that A C to 3400 can be done, but 24 horse would turn that larger motor very slow causing very short pulls. Am looking for a different tractor myself but dont know what to get. Maybe an early A C D14 with an 8 speed trany.

Don't believe every thing you hear. We have a number of 8 N's pulling in our club. If you are willing to spend some bucks on the engine and install an over and under transmission, it will whip many an Allis Chalmers C. These 8 N's usually whip the Allis Chalmer C's, the Farmall A's and B's as well as the John Deere H's and B's. The key is the transmission and some serious engine work. It isn't cheap but the end result is very favorable.

You need to find a step down transmission so you can slow down your ground speed. They are easy to install by splitting the tractor & replacing the input shaft with the trans. Your ground speed will drop to 2.8 instead of 3.7 mph. The way it is now is just like pulling in 2nd. gear in most tractors. Way to fast. We have a Ford with a step down & Allis Cs & Bs are usually not a problem. WCs, now thats another story.

My grandpa sold his 8N because it couldnt pull a tuna sandwich out of a paper bag. yours NEVER will. unless you find a dozen guys with those things, and make a class for it, you wont ever win anything with it, except maybe a grin as everyone boos you off the track. Great peice in its own element, but the track is not it. if that machine had live hydraulics and PTO it would be the best tractor ever made, but it dont

Get rid of the 8N and the B and buy above Chuck's G Deere stuff. After all this is the Deere tractor pulling discussion board. HA
