Does anybody know how to check stroke for a Allis engine without taking the head off? I thought about trying to get a straw down thru the spark plug hole and checking it that way but I am having trouble getting it in the head .. the engine has the plate on the side of it like a WD block but it has the WD45 head intake and carb on it. Im hopeing that it has the 4 1/2 stroke in it.

Thanks,

why couldn't you stick a wire in a plug hole & turn the engine over & measure it?

That is not just a WD45 head - Its the taller one your speaking of right? They were on many of the WD's. The only difference is they positioned the hole for the spark plug to be in the center for better combustion. If the serial # on the side of the block starts with the letter "U", then its a WD but if it starts with "AM" its a WD45. Email me with any questions - Im running a couple WD's and one with 38's and can maybe give some pointers if you building.

I am not for sure that the crank that is in it came with the engine that is in the tractor or if someone has changed the crank.

You could also do it from the bottom end by taking the pan off.
