I thought that you couldn't mix gas and Methol alcohol, that it would separate out? Just wondering, it would be alot cheaper then buying the $5.00 a gallon stuff.

Right at the 10% alcohol point the two comonents will settle out, just like milk & cream if allowed to sit. Can't hurt to mix a test batch & watch what it does. Depends on temperature as well. So either mix in more or less & keep it stirred prior to starting. It's cheap & easy HP,octane & SG control. More than 10% methyl will start to strip rust off the steel tank & attack componets over time. The wee squirt of alcohol is mostly intended to lighten a heavy batch of gas. Xylene or toulene blending with premium pump gas seems to be a well kept secret. Of course 100LL aviation fuel is fairly cheap & handy. It's designed for combustion in low rpm long stroke engines such as radial airplane engines & tractors. If the engine detonates on 100LL it's some kind of monster or there is something wrong. "Cam what ever" gas is intended for 9000rpm small blocks.

Back in the late 70's we were told that av-gas was the ticket. We ran it in both of our tractors ( U Allis and BR JD) and the only thing noticed was after pulling and letting them sit and cool down you could hardly crank the BR over and the U Allis we had to pull to get started! After that a little 2 stroke oil took care of that problem. Later our supplier switched planes and the new one burned regular gas, back to 92 octane. Thanks for the info G Taylor.
