How far can you bore out a JD G block before compromising the water jacket?

Looking for good used pistons or other parts to make it go.

Thank you

I'd stick to 6.375 to 6.4... much more and the old rusty block (water jacket) tend to get thin... At 6.5 there not enough material and will require sleeves.. and if you are going to sleeve a block that is going to need to have the sleeves welded in.. might as well go 7in or bigger.. JDGnut

There was a local G puller that bored the block to 6.750 and used D standard pistons, all went well until he cut one inch off of the top of another set of D pistons and welded this to the top of the first set. He proceeded in pulling the head bolts out of the block.

If you want a durable setup I wouldn't go any further than .125. Actually, .090 would be a good choice because it gives the block one more boring to .125 if something happens. Although there are pistons available in .250 &.312 over (Schooler) which can be bored into the stock block, there have been some problems with this practice, It works for some but not for others. If cost is not a concern, you can have the block sleeved and go to 6.5, but this gets very expensive, and a resleeved block comes with it's own set of problems. For the cost and headaches involved with this you would probably be better off to look for a 6.5 Powerblock, but good ones are hard to find and can bring $1500 or more with good pistons. At any rate it gets expensive to go bigger than .125.
