Well, I feel like an idiot....

I have been working my butt off cutting my first set of tires. I was so very proud of how pretty they were after I started slicking them out with 80 grit on the sander....then....shhhhh hhhhh ....cut through!!

Lets back up....These tires were road worn real short. I wanted to get 1/2" lug at least, but I was having to cut down to the cords on center part of the lugs because they were worn so bad. I talked to a buddy of mine and he said not to worry it was really common to do that. I am thinking these 8 ply tires is no biggy to bugger a couple layeres of cord cause they are plenty thick.

As it turns out I actually cut down to the last set of cords on a couple spots and hit the tube on one when I was finish sanding them. This just blew me away, cause I could only count a couple sets of cord showing on the worst spots??? I guess I just want to know if a boot over the couple thin spots will be okay????

I am just sick and feeling like a complete idiot right now, so if you have ever done this please feel free to tell me :).

Thanks,

Chris

I think the boot will be just fine. They are really tough. I put a piece of steel through my 9n tire last year right in between the v sections in the middle and I had to put a boot in it. I really use this thing hard too, brushogging, scraping, hauling rocks, disking, you name it. The boots are tough and after a while you will forget it is even in there. I hope that is what you wanted to hear. I have had those days where it seems like two steps forward, three back. But that is farming every day isn't it? By the way, nice job on the M. We have a super M and love it. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. And, yes that is what I wanted to hear. It just really got me when that one broke through. I am going to load them both up and have the boots put in them today. I dont have time to do it myself.

As far as the two forward and three back, that certainly is farming. I grew up on the farm and still help my Dad from time to time, but I knew I could not do it for a living after seeing my family struggle so much growing up. For me, the tractor is just a hobbie right now.

I you have to, you can use a couple of boots on the hole. I would recomend using a smaller boot to cover the hole, then placing a larger boot over the smaller one. I good tire man can fix this right up for you. Also, get you some 3M Flexan 80 from MSC. Put this on the outside over the hole, you won't be able to tell that anything ever happened

I also was thinking that I could put some 3M polyurethane gasket glue over the outside and sand it smooth. I have used that stuff in the past and it is the toughest polymer I have seen. Is the flexan similiar to this?

Thanks, and I got them fixed today with no issues. What is Flexan and what is MSC. I am not familiar with this.
