My 9 year old son has decided he wants to pull his H farmall this fall at the county fair. He's very good with his tractor. Is there a minimum age?The rulebook just says anyone pulling under 13years old ,the tractor has to be equipped with wheelie bars, question, how to build them . Is there some rules on their construction or does anyone have a picture of some.any info appreciated

Chris:
The way I check the wheelie bars is like this. Whatever weight class you are in or however many weights you throw on your tractor, you should be able to put a floor jack under the wheelie bar and lift the tractor without breaking or bending the bars when you are done. I like to use 2 in. square thick wall to make mine out of. It's for your safety. Some guys like alum. as they are trying to make things lighter. I have a friend of mine who made weight racks and his bars out of alum. He left his weights hang on the racks transporting down the road. Ended up stopping and picking up weights along the road after hitting a nice bump. Alum. didn't hold. As far as height, most clubs have a rule that the pad has to be 10 inches or so off the ground. Rules may differ. Measure when tractor is setting on cement or hard surface. On your young lads pulling, you will probably have to sign a consent/liabability form before they will let him pull...deadeye

Chris- the age limit on pullin is at least 14-16 years of age and some may even let a nine year old pull, the wheelie bars for a lot of tractors a bult to just satisfy the tech people. If I were building for my son I would jack front of tractor up to 18" and at this time the wheelie bar pads should be on the ground.I made them for my "G" JD this wayand used 2x3 1/4 in.square tubing. The wheelie bars cannot be attached to drawbar nowhere and the pads that come in contact with ground should be 5"x5".Go to a pull and take a good look at the wheelie bars, and remember when you build them you got a 9 year old crop at stake. thanks there Gman I've got a bunch of 2x4 heavy tubing .Think I'll look at some first. MATPA rules did'nt have anything on age that I could find just that anyone under 13 must use wheeliebars
