I have noise coming from the valve cover on my 1940 B. I have never adjusted the valves before and have no manual as of yet. Can someone explain the procedure to me, with correct measurements and all. Thanks

You want the engine good and hot, in order to ensure that as the parts "grow" later, all the lash won't be taken up and a valve won't be held off it's seat. Roll each cylinder up to TDC on its compression stroke, and you can adjust both cylinders simultaneously. I believe the lash should be in the .020" range, although some guys simply run the screw to zero lash and back it off 1/4 turn. You can run into problems maintaining a consistent clearance if there is excessive wear on the rocker shaft or in the rocker where it rides on the rocker shaft. Better to have too much lash than too little.
