I have a 44 A that I pull. Has been bored .125 and the rest is completly stock. It has 14.9-38 firestone 23 degrees tires. On a hard track it will power out in first gear. Can anything be done to the cam (stock or competetion grind)?
What more lugging power! Any other suggestions welcome.

It's way more fun "stroking" a fellow puller than it is stroking a crankshaft. Right Bert.

OOOOOWWWWW WWWW!!!!! That hurt clear over here!!! OH WELL us creepers gotta stick together!!! You got a stroker and I got a "jack rabbit" govenor!! What you NEED is my orginal pistons outa the 70!!! I think yours dont idle right cause the oil coming past the rings is putting your fire out!!!!

Bert,Geaterupper informed me that "stroking" a fellow puller may me misunderstood. I meant it as a way to misinform a fellow puller as to weight placement, gear selection, track conditions etc. I'm pretty sure we were on the same page, dont want anyone hacked off at the tireda. P.S. Why stop at 5 7/8" bore????? ?????

OHHHHH like you pulling in 2nd in 6500 at blue earth???? I'd get away with it in 5500 but never 6500- I know that much.
Yeah- why stop at 5 7/8th take her out as big as she can go. You should take it out far enough so you dont need water- then your radiator and water pump wouldn't leak!!

I have an A that has .125 M&W's, Roberts cam, and some head and carb work. I had the rods lenghthened to make the pistons come all the way to the top of the block, raising the compression to 8.5-1. The tractor dynos 50 HP. I am running 13.6-38 Field N Roads, and the tractor is competive at local pulls.(4500-5500) I think 14.9's would be too much tire for this tractor because of the additional height of the 14.9-38. Your first step would be to try a smaller set of tires.

I can sympathize with your problem, I pulled a 48 A for a few years with 14.9's on it. Engine was .125 over m&w's, ported and cut head. I fixed mine by trading it for a 51 A with creeper low. Same horse power as the '48 but this one will spin out in 7500lb. class, '48 wouldn't spin in 5500lb. P.S. This one will keep the Olivers on their toes, wont it Bill...Dusty?!

I've seen that '51 A, it MUST be stroked. It barely idles.
