Problem: I am using a large #35 venturi in my carburetor. In order to get close to the right fuel to air mixture, I need the main jet adjusting screw as loose as I can without it falling out of the bowl. Still seems to be a little lean on the mixture. Does this mean the holes in the discharge nozzle are not large enough? I could not find it but I think Chad S has always said that you make the top 2 nozzle holes larger and not change the lowest hole. Is that right? Will the larger holes then allow me to turn in the main jet adjusting screw for proper mixture? Thanks to all in advance.

Which carb bowl are you using? Does the metering stem screw into the carb bowl, or does the stem have the brass retainer plug at the bottom? The one that screws into the carb bowl, or a 6 cyl bowl works well,,, You drill outthe bottom 2 holes of the metering stem, not the top,, the fuel will fill the stem quicker at the lower holes. If you are using a old style bowl off a M, yeah, you can open up the holes of the stem and see if it helps, but you may have to open the main jet as well. So, start with seeing which bowl you have,, if you have a 6 cyl bowl, Id try a little larger main jet first,,,, if you have the old style M bowl, you will have to drill both the bottom 2 holes of the stem, and the main jet. Try 5 sizes larger than your current jet, with the same bit, drill out the bottom 2 holes of the metering stem. If you still cannot get enoug fuel, go larger on the main jet, 2-4 sizes more, but leave the metering stem alone, (for now) if after you cant fuel after opening up the jet once again, then open up the 2 holes on the stem,,, but only try that if the main jet size increase dont affect it.
