Hey all! Wanting to lighten my H up a bit. A buddy cam get me sheets of aluminum up to 10 mm thick. I was thinking about removing my cast centers and making a new center out of aluminum and making a set of 9 bolt hubs.

What do you all think about this idea? How thick should I go with aluminum? Give me you thoughts.

Cheers!

Sid

If you are wanting to get rid of those heavy hubs..I would some suggest steel weld-on hubs from Dave Brugger up in Iowa..Real nice guy.Good to deal with.Very strong hubs..Very well made.Have bought 3 sets from him, never had any problems...phone#608-762-5517..

Sid, I did centers from Al. Did not buy new Al, but used old Al dock loading board from salvage yard to cut the disks, and then welded small L shaped brackets around the inside of the wheel so I could get 16 smaller bolts into the disk/wheel and bolt them up tight. When I looked at the final assembly, I decided would not be stiff enough to hold 10,000 pound tractor and weights, so added 6 ribs as stiffeners to inside of disk and welded an additional collar around the lug bolts area. Yes, I saved about 200# but then guess what? Had to add 2 more weights to meet weight on my low class. It does give the tractor a unique look, but would not do it again just to save the weight. Too much effort/ too little gain.

10mm is only 0.39" thick. I don't think I'd trust it on my tractor.
