I am tinkering with the idea of building a H with a 460 motor. I know were there is a 460 with a motor in a junkyard. It does still have the flywheel and clutch and other components. An H that doesnt run shouldnt be a hard find. What will i need to make this look like and H and run like a 460? Will there be alot of custom fitting or more less just some 460 parts in an H?

At the pull in east concord on saturday there was a kid with a h with a 301 in it. It ran farely strong but entered the stock class. They had to extend the frame 4 inches to make fit maybe they'l be at strawberry fields.

ChadS, who used to post on here pretty regular built one a year and a half or so ago. He can tell you all about it. Or his might be for sale. Might want to check rules in your area---not legal alot of places. I think USAP let him Expo pull it a couple of times, because it wasn't legal for their classes.

As far as I know it is still able to run USAP Modified stock, pro, and super pro classes. I havent had it out since 05 there, so maybe its changed?? I suppose its up to what you can do in classes you have. All that has to be done is recut the flywheel to the H starter ring specs, and use the 460 pressure plate, and a Super H clutch disk, and H pilot bearing, oh and the 460 flywheel, and engine plate. No alterations of the driveshaft, 460 frame rails bolt directly on the H bellhousing. Its the same wheel base as the 460,,,, Other than the starter ring deal, its a bolt in swap. Chad

There is one in my club, except it has a 560 engine in it. Pretty slick. He took two H hoods to make the hood. Cut one and added a section in the middle of it. Extended the frame rails. Very slick, hard runner. I'll see if I can find a pic to post.

I've had similar thoughts from time to time.

You'll have to cut down the 460 flywheel to fit the H ring gear; you'll have to make sure the engine plate for the C-221 matches the H bellhousing bolt pattern; you'll have to use 460 thru 856 side rails; you'll have to lengthen the H steering shaft; and you'll have to "stretch" the H hood by adding some sheet metal, and probably have to weld up the left-side exhaust hole from the H application and cut one for the right-side C-221 manifold.

And, if it was me, I'd get a sign company to make up a decal to replace the standard "H" in the circle with one that says "What the H?"...but that's just how I think.

Your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects...you know, the standard disclaimer language.

Why not consider picking up a good 460? I've got a healthy 460 with new engine kit, new clutch, etc that weighs under 5500 and good torque & it's for sale.
