I think there was also a speed-hour meter option available - it would replace the governor end housing and drive off of that - although I've never seen one on a G, my 60 has one on it. It's listed in the G parts book, and you would have to replace the governor shaft, end housing, etc. and install a bracket, cable, and hour-meter. Like I said, I've never seen one on a G, so they might be pretty rare. Maybe there is another that would fit, like off of a 70 or something.

If you are running a gas dist, just set the tach to the 4 cylinder position, and it will work. If you are running an LP dist, you will have to find a tach that has a 2 cylinder setting. (good luck) If running a mag, find the inductive pick type, like burns was talking about.. JDGnut

Burns.. what's the part number on that Autometer tach.. and what's it looking like..(background, needle color) Looking for a different tach for the tractor I'm building... Thanks

The cheapest way is to purchase an electronic tach from a place like Northern Hydraulics. A wire picks up the impulse on the spark plug wires. It gets a little jumpy on the readings.

Other option is to install an MSD box. Most have a tach output. Depending on the tach, you can calibrate the tach for a 4 cylinder engine. I bought an Autometer 0-4000 rpm range that works great.

Fred does the Autometer tack plug right in to the MSD box or do you have to get one from MSD. I'ce got a plugin that goes to the magnetic pickup(Im using the white wire setup) it's purple and green, have't tried to plug it in to the Tack outlet yet do you know if it will plug in? '51 Gman

The tach is equipped with 4 wires, 12v power, ground, wire for the internal light, and the tach wire. The 6A MSD box has a port for the tach. Pretty much wire to wire without needing anything from either autometer or MSD. It is my understanding that some setups require a adapter of some kind but I haven't came across that in my travels.

BTW, do you have any pictures of your G pulling that you would like to share?

Thanks
