Farmall M Turbocharged!!!! What is safe boost?

I completed my M turbocharging project and would like to know what a safe limit was. I can stomp the brakes in 5th at 1500rpms and not even pull down the motor. The harder I push, the higher the boost with no RPM loss; unlimited it seems!!. I took it to 12psi for short bursts but around 6psi it really sounds good. I would think someone out there has done this before. Maybe it should have scattered at 4psi??? Thanks for any guidence!!

water does not "burn". it keeps the combustion temps low by absorbing energy when going from liquid droplets to steam.

water is always coming out of your exhaust because it is a product of combustion. water can't burn because it's the product of stuff burning. have a good one.

To say it burns is sortof simplistic, but since it has been challenged you can can read for yourself. It is actually stripped down to its basic elements and becomes active in the combustion process.....so, if fuel burns....then water burns.

water injection becomes needed when cyl temps get high enough to be a danger to the engine or turbo.
water will not burn,it turns to stream and drives the turbo harder and turns to water again once it comes out of the exhaust.
that is why a PS or SS tractor has steam out of the exhaust at the end of the run,it is simply the excess water exiting the exhaust.
also,you can destroy an engine with boost pressure infact we have a couple of them in the scrap pile from it.
320psi and a good head and just about any block will go south in a hurry.

No. Read the link if you want to understand water injection and its interaction with the combustion process. Water does not remain chemically stable at 5000+ degree peak flame temps as those seen in a turbocharged gasoline engine.

Since you are talking 320psi I must assume we are talking diesels. I have not read alot on diesels, but I can tell you for sure that on a gasoline engine water is stripped down and burned. Obviously, there is a point of deminishing returns, but in a proper application it stabilizes the combustion process and is very active chemically(burning if you will).

Safe is all relative. With good fuel/spark control and race gas 25-30 psi could be made to hold together. At that level water injection would also be a good idea to keep combustion stable. Believe it or not water can and will burn in the combustion process aside from what many "experts" will tell you.

Boost does not kill engines, detonation and RPM kill engines.

Is your turbo wastegated? I am guessing not from what you are saying. Is your fuel pressure boost referenced?

I have my engine setup with an EFI pump and boost referenced FPR feeding a holley in blowthrough configuration. While it is crude in the realm of turbo setups, it works pretty well. I run 12psi with no problems, but I am able to run enough fuel to keep a steady black to brown smoke stream rolling. I tuned back a couple jet sizes to clean it up after I ran it a couple times. Black/brown smoke is a good indicator that you have enough fuel on a turbo engine. A turbo engine likes about one point richer than NA. Full power on a turbo engine is just fine at an AFR of 11:1. 12:1 is getting on the raged edge. At about 10.5:1 you are smoking a good bit. So, consider smoke a saftey factor on a turboed gas engine.
