I just had one of my really poor 13.6 X 38 tires go down on my farmall 400. Was wondering what a good tire size would be for pulling. I have the stock wheels and rims. Could I go up to a 16.9 or would that be too big? I am trying to decide between the 14.9 and the 16.9. I hear most people don't usually use the 15.5, is that correct? I usually spin out with loaded 13.6's right now. Thanks.

15.5"s are good i have a set on are 450. The rims are 16 inches wide. and we was running up with the 16.9"s and 18.4x38"s and was kicking there butt most of the time. So if you go with 15.5"s go with firestones

Think I may be going to go with the 14.9 X 38's. I don't really want to change my rims to allow for the larger tires. I do have a working TA. My rules allow for up to two faces over stock tire size. So I could go up to a 16.9 at the biggest. Right now it has 13.6's and they are way too small. They are loaded right now and I was spinning out easily at around 7200 lbs. I think I am going to get rid of the cloride with the new tires. It should probably drop the weight to around 6200 - 6300 or so. I will probably try a faster gear.

if u want to go to 16x9x38 i would get bigger rims too other whise ull b running them balooned up funny, and as for the 15x5x38 the reason they arent used is because they are shorter and that takes away ground speed. My advice if u want to use your stock rims go with the 14x9x38's ull have a little less width but wont b sacrificing ur ground speed.

just my opinion

I've pulled our 400 for a couple of years now that I pull in the stock classes. I currently have 18.4X38 on which work well in the 7500-8500#. They are a little big for the 6500#. The 16.9X38 work well for the 6000, 6500#, and fair for 7500#, not very good in 8500.

It depends what classes/rules you will pull, type of track and also if you have a WORKING TA.
