Was wondering how much more it takes to pull a trailer plow compared to a semi mount plow. Is there any stats suggesting how many hp per bottom for each type of plow, I am interested cause my neighbor pulls a 6 bottom semi mount with a cultapacker with a 4430 JD approx 130 hp, I am considering purchasing a 6 bottom trailer plow and I have a 2290 Case approx 130hp could I pull it.

I have read that the contestants in plowing contests prefer trailer plows for nicer furrows, consistent depth. Don't know the reasons. A properly adjusted trailer plow pulls only slightly harder than a mounted plow.

Not sure, but I do know that a 14" plow bottom will require about 1,000 lbs of pulling force per bottom..... The draft requirements are the same for the pull type, but the semi-mounted one will allow weight transfer to the tractor, improving traction a great deal... Pull-types require a lot more room at the end of the field---more to plow off when finished... They are not as handy to back, etc....
