Here is what I done about 7 0r 8 years ago when Denny's was selling these things for $100 or whatever it was. Ordered one from J.C. Whitney in Chicago for a 1969 Chevrolet Chevy II, 153 C.I.--4 cylinder. Amazing, got the same thing he was making his big bucks off of for a Delco Dist.
Still works in my "M" today. Made my own mounting plate with a metal hole saw and a piece of alum.

you should be pleased with electronic ignition. get a 55000 volt coil while you are at it. the kit for a h is more than $59 from denny's.

The shaft in my distributor was exposed to water at some point in time causing the point gap to vary to much from the shape of the shaft. I installed the pertronix from CBS Performance in Colorado and I haven't had any trouble since then. I should have the distributor rebuild but that is for another rainy day. If your tractor is like mine at the time (not running correctly), I might suspect that you could gain a couple hp but only to the potential of the motor. If it runs good, then I doubt that you would see much change. I would suggest going with a good coil. If you ever add a MSD box, they are compatable.

My thoughts exactly burns. These modules will work with a gap of something like .030-.070 so if your bushings are wore-out like most of these 50 yr old tractors it will take the variance out of the timing otherwise its just another way to fire the coil. Try the before and after test with a timing light watch the mark bounce all over with points then install the kit and it will stay steady as can be. But we bought 5 of these kits for our lp tractors and only 1 works 3yrs later.

electronic ignitions work wonders over 4-5,000 rpm
over 5,000 rpms points can float and lose consistency of fire. but if your H gets anywheres close to that, peices of it will fly in all directions thus nullifying any performance gains. and sure as sunrise some joker is going to tell you it added 250 hp to his Farmall and you need 2 on each tractor. its a low rpm engine, points are sufficient.

I bought an inexpensive device at my local parts store that basically has an adjustable electrode to monitor the gap. After .040 the spark just doesn't seem to have that nice blue spark. This was with the pertronix unit and pertronix coil. I did notice a brighter spark with a MSD coil. I can't remember exactly what each coil is rated for in voltage.
