I wanna pull my farmall M down in the 4500lb class, as well as the 5000 and 5500 maybe heavier. I'm running a new pair of 13.6 38 firestone field and roads, and it'll have roughly 70-75hp. How wide of a rim should I go. I'm thinking of going with a 14in rim but what do you guys think. I pull on hard and loose tracks.

Good rule of thumb on rim width is same as tire width. Ie 13"-13.6, 14"-14.9, 15"-15.5. You see. As far as 3rd or 4th with 75hp, must be sand, aint gonna get it on good clay.

Personally I would select a 12 or 13" maximum width. Not sure what type of soil your track is made up of, but new tires won't pull as good as say a tire worn evenly at 50% tread.

What have you got done to the engine to get that much jam out of it? What is the dislacement now?
You can probably pull in 3rd or 4th???With that tire size and weight.

I would go as wide as the clubs you pull at will allow. Most clubs allow 1-2 inches wider rims than what the tire size is. I have all my rims 2" wider than the tires on all my pulling tractor. You will have to play with the tire pressure if you go with wider rims.
Just my opinion.
Terry
