dyno apulling tractor on a rear wheel dyno then you dont have to worry with pto breakage .its the best you know whats at the rear wheels and that is what you use when pulling

Neighbor has two sooped up M's. One must have 100 hp. The other one pulls with the real high hp stuff-4440's, 1066's, 460's and can beat them. It doesn't sound like an M. They don't have PTO shafts! That M pulls in 4th gear with 18.4-38's and will spin out. Love to know how high it really revs something like 80 mph tire speed. Scary to sit in the stands and watch.

The Old style M pto will break at about 90hp @ 500 pto rpm, more rpm may have kept it in one piece. We got a new style and were in the 107-108 range at 540pto speed. As far shafts holding I have held over 400HP @ 1000 pto rpm on MM stock pto unit, little twisted but lived it did brake the dyno drive shaft.

I had 2 M tractors. 4 1/2 bore, 7 1/4 stroke, head work done, carb work done, stock rpms---one M--115 hp, other M 116 hp. These people that say they get 150 hp from a M at stock rpm, I would have to see it to beleive it.

wonder how often it has to be rebuilt?? 1 season? 2 seasons? give me an engine that is strong and will run for a long long time, instead of how big it can be.

There are a few M's coming south in December that would be intersting to see what they had.7000lbs plus pulling in second and third gears with 18.4 38.s and plenty of engine left. There are some that have a sound all thier own too.M's with 500+ cubic inches should be impressive on a dyno but haven't heard of anyone doing it or telling about it.

Im sure they are. Probably not dynoing the engine thru the tractor anymore,, probably hooked directly to the dyno, the HP is higher dynoing that way, no gear reduction from the pto, so its brake HP they are measuring, not 540, just thought id throw that out there,, see what bites,,,, thru the pto,, 500" M,, if its good, maybe 160,,, just the engine on a dyno,, could be alot higher,, No one is brave enough to dyno a big M with the stock pto shaft. no probablem dynoing a big m with the stock pto. if you have a big engine you will also have a nine speed which gives fast pto speed also.

Yeah, that clutch is good for 65 tops. Same disk as a H farmall, not too sure bout the pressure plate, was thinking they interswap,,,, 10 inch. Cant remember. Gotta respect a good AC,,, dont care if the M has 150hp, a WC/WD can drive right by em if the conditions were right. They pull!

Got to agree there, they pack a lot of punch for thier physical size.My 50 WD I once owned had the quickest governor of anything I have ever been on and walked with a 5 foot bushhog in TALL weeds in third gear. The foot clutch was touchy so with that and the governor being like it was it made for an interesting time backing up to an impliment.I pull a Super 88 and in the 4500/5000/and sometimes 5500 the WD/WD45's give me a fit.
