do any of you guys outhere know how gingerich installs the sleeves in these big bore oliver blocks. dose he stop it at the bottom or dose he hang it from the top .how thick do these sleeves need to be thanks for any help

How big do you plan on going. 590 and up gets touchy but can be done and made reliable, (that is a relative statement). Hard block would probably have to be used once you get past a certian point and you wouldn't want to pull back to back. Re routing the oil is not a big deal.
Extra clearance for the pistons\sleave is a big deal. Do it. IMHO the sleaves are hung from the 1 inch plate on top and the bottom of the block is sealed up with hard block. If you are going smaller then you could probably be more flexible.

I like the idea of grinding the sides of the cam rather than turning it down on a lathe. I'm not an engine builder but have given it a lot of thought and listened to a lot of speculation.

I once heard that the sleeves in the big gingerich motors stepped down in size three times towards the bottom of the block. that left more meat to help prevent the block from splitting down the middle. also heard that they left the sleeves sticking up .003" above the deck to get good head gasket seal.
