6.5" stroke with stock rods and a 478 navistar (IH) truck piston (4.5") works well. 413 cid
Biggest problem you will have is keeping the sleeves from moving (down) in the block. I would try having them welded in place if I were to try it again. I think Head shop in Neveda Ia does it.

I am told m and w 179 piston is still available 4.25 for half inch crank stock rod.Minimal clearance grinding.Get you70 horse or more depending on which head other mods etc.THIS is a good dependable setup for afirst effort.I am currently putting together an incher and am dicovering lots of little pitfalls.Whatever you decide figure everything out and get prices, availability etc before you have the crank made.

what about the 4.25 pistons in a straight M not a super?I was told they wouldn't fit,or you had to run without sleeves,OR that you will hit water on anything over 4"????what is the deal here???thanx alot for the advice!

Flying Farmall when i started out I would have appreciated some first hand comments I couldnt get.Rule no 1 big inches cost big bucks. The mand w 179 is the only piston I know that uses stockrods and stroker crank.ON my setup however for some reason one cam lobe ticked the rod.Do check carefully for clearance.4 inch is as big as you can go on m block without biring.4.625 or more is possible costs lots.MIDWEST cylinder haed in nevada Ia.will do.On the 6.25 I am building broke into oil gallery on no 2 crankpin and reqiring lots of rod griding to clear the cam.Consider using different rods on longer strokes.Lemmons tr. in Rushville In.good plsce also.I am not trying to argue with anybody just passing on my hard won experiances.
