Chad is this a stock tractor? On Tractor pulling carb's I build this usually indicates too small of venturi or too lean on adjustment. When it frost's over it doesn't atomize the fuel. The gentleman is right to shut off the tractor because that let's the engine temp to thaw out the carb. Tractors such as DC Case Massey 44 &55 have a real long neck on there manifold even unstyled "A" with Johnson manifold Ihave seen guys wrap the manifold with insulation such as attic foil heat blanket 1/4 in thick. It is best to fix the problem. Your tractor will run better.SEAMO

Wrapping just the intake will prevent heat from melting the ice. The exhaust & intake would have to be wrapped together to heat the intake. A frosted carb/intake when others aren't maybe a sign of high ratios of alcohol mixed with the fuel.

The float might be stuck. To much fuel going in carb, lots of evaperation going on is causing condensation on the outside. Are you getting black smoke when this is happening. Have any touble bringing it up to full RPMs. If so tap on the bowl with a wrench. If it stops then that is the problem for sure. If it doesn't take the bowl off and see if the float is stuck at the bottom position. If you ran the fuel out last winter, moisture may have caused some corrosion to stick it in place.

After you have it running for a few minutes and it starts getting frosted up,just shut the engine off for a little while. Then start it back up again. The carb will then thaw itself out. Works every time.

This is NORMAL. cars draw air right off the exhaust manifold until the air temp, and intake get warm. aircraft have carb heat, either manifold or electric, tractors have none, so they freeze up in the carb. side panels help, but its nothing new, just something you just noticed. the run and shut down and wait is the only simple solution. has your oil bath been serviced lately?
