One of our team membersbought a 403 cube f-20. The original owner couldn't make it run right. We knew it had valves at maximum size with stock cam. Intake ports are taken out .090. This is what it does. Won't idle on its own till warm, must keep featering the throttle. Goes real good till it needs to start working then falls on it,s face in a cloud of black smoke. We suspect the head is not ported properly and air flow is lost when not at max rpm. It runs ay 3000rpm,s, stock mag also. Any thoughts?

1st, that's way too many rpms for an F-20 of that size to run at, and at least run many times and survive! UNLESS, the F-20 gets 660 IH rpms now too!! All the above are problems that you listed, for sure the stock mag, once compression comes up and it needs to make power, there isn't enuff there to fire it! Keep trying different things, SOON, it too will be TUFF-E-NUFF!!!!

Dave H, sounds like a f-20 we had running around here a few years ago, but it couldnt keep up with open anymore, so he started running in pace classes. He even broke a crank once, spilled the insides all over, but then he added a center main in it, it held up much better. Sounds like a mag problem to me.

What does 660 rpm's mean. We have one that ran at 3500 for 10 years. Did break crank at 5500 though. That one had a MSD Ignition that failed.
